1998 frontier misfire po301 knock sensor
Hello guys and gals. I have a 1998 frontier 2.4 ltr. Just started misfire so here's a list of what I've done still misfireing. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor button, all new vacumn lines, new o2 sensors, new exhaust manifold and gaskets, new downpipe. Checked compression test all checking 165 psi, checked spark with tester all good. Checked injectors all have 8.5 ohms and noid light shows good on wire connectors. Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks for reading.

Re: 1998 frontier misfire po301 knock sensor
The ignition coil is inside the distributor. If the coil is breaking down then you'll have to replace the whole distributor. They'll usually work ok when the engine is cold but start to misfire as the engine warms up. Last one I replaced was about $120 aftermarket (Cardone). You can go "bone yard" but who knows how long they'll last. Not an uncommon problem on Nissan 4's and sixes.

Re: 1998 frontier misfire po301 knock sensor
Will this make misfire even when it's cold engine. I start it and it runs really rough and after five minutes of running it starts to miss worse and then dies. It will restart and do the same thing. When I replaced plugs number 1 was fouled. After fifteen minutes of running I pulled all plugs again and all were fouled. I changed again from nkg this time with AC delco and still has misfire.

Let me start over. I thought I saw P0300. Is that the only code you're getting? P0301 is a misfire code for cylinder #1. The NGK plugs are more suited to that engine than the AC's. Where did you get knock sensor?

Re: 1998 frontier misfire po301 knock sensor
I know there's a common problem with most early 3.3's with knock sensor codes but it mostly pertains to relocating the sensor and doesn't cause a misfire. Not sure if it affects 2.4's. Have you checked fuel pressure? And all the injector resistances are the same? (unlikely but the offender will be way off the other 3).
Recheck all your work then try this for help: troubleshootmyvehicle.com › Nissan › 2.4L, 2.5L The guys got a pretty good trouble shooting tree with logic you'll understand. |

Re: 1998 frontier misfire po301 knock sensor
if you can, use a volt/ohm meter and see if injector for #1 has resistance, compare it to one of the other ones. will need to unplug the wire from it to check it

Re: 1998 frontier misfire po301 knock sensor
I unplugged all the injectors and did ohms reading all four are reading 8.5 ohms. Noid light showed all wiring is working properly. Was told that egr valve passage could be clogged up. Is this possible even at cold motor. I just even bought another cap and button to double check and still misfireing bad.

What's there an echo on this website?
I would think an EGR issue would affect all cylinders the same. |
