WANTED: Peugeot 205gti

I live in Ontario, Canada, and I'm looking for a Peugeot 205gti for my husband's 40th birthday. Just wondering if anyone has any tips for where to look, and what to look for when buying? I found one 4 hours away. The seat fabric is destroyed! He will put in a new timing belt and water pump, as well as do a brake job and polish the exterior. But he wants $6000 for it and I think that is excessive. The pics are too large to attach

Is there a particular year that is more reliable/desirable?

What problems are typical that I should look out for when buying? (E.g rust areas? water pump? engine, etc?)

Should I be more concerned about the interior or exterior (my husband is mechanically-inclined and would love to tinker around with it). E.G. Is it better to get one with a rough exterior but a mint interior, or vice versa?
