Extremely low sound on OEM head unit
Hello everyone.
And thanks in advance for your help. So i have a 05 Impala 9C1 Base version, meaning i have the cassette version head unit. It was ok, since a set up an adapter for the unit to accept iPod/Aux inputs. Few weeks ago, in one of those rare occasions where I was listening to the radio, it just went dead on me, or so i though... What really happened is that the sound was very-very low, i have to put the sound bar to max so I can barely hear anything. The radio do tune to the stations but the sound it's extremely slow! and the condition only affects the FM band, AM band sound ok, so are iPod/Aux inputs, they both sound good. Only FM band doesn't. I've already checked/replace the antenna module, who's integrated to the rear windshield and although when manipulating the module the sound somehow start to come out it ends up with no change at all. The car it's no equiped with Bose Audio system so, no amp in the trunk that might be causing of the fail... So what do you guys think?! I haven't try any aftermarket antenna; I had one laying around, but the connector wasn't right. Whats the spec on the diameter of the antenna connector in the back of the head unit?! |

I don't figure the antennae has anything to do with the low sound. Sounds more like the main unit is dying.

Re: Extremely low sound on OEM head unit
Yeah... I'm afraid that might be the problem.
I'm in no condition to upgrade to an aftermarket head right now, so that's why I'm exploring a solutions... And the thing is, why is it only the FM band going out, why not the entire unit!? Besides head unit has been working like this for a couple of months by now, with an iPod... That's what's driving me to believe it's something else than the head unit... I'm intending to start a search for bad connections or shorts in the antenna cable... but i'm not sure through where does the cable go... underneath the carpet?! drivers side maybe?! Might anyone have a driagram or something/!? |

These units are pretty easy to find used at salvage yards, installers shops, some auto shops that sell and service various used cars. So think about that option as well.
