Re: my 1998 chevy cavalier won't start
sounds like a problem with the starter. Tap on the starter with a hammer and then try to start it. If it starts you will have to replace the starter

Re: my 1998 chevy cavalier won't start
If it was the starter, there would be some sort of noise, like a grinding or at worst a clicking sound. If theres no sound at all, I would guess that it definetly a battery problem. How long before this problem, did your husband put the water pump on?

Re: my 1998 chevy cavalier won't start
most likely a coroded battery cable or terminals or even the battery itself. Do you have a dvom to test it with. If its below about 10 volts you will have to charge it

Re: my 1998 chevy cavalier won't start
my 98 cavalier is having the same issue where it will not start. it turns very slowly and occasionally stutters as if it wants to start, but it doesn't start.
backstory first the belt broke, replace belt and idle pulley then it ran hot from lack of coolant, refilled coolant, replaced thermostat. since then i noticed it cranks very slow, i thought it was battery, replaced battery and it still cranks slow and not starting. not sure where to look next. starter? *i replied here because i'm not able to start a new thread/post i'd appreciate all suggestions. thank you. |

Re: my 1998 chevy cavalier won't start
Hey Trez,
Check the thread just above this one. It's 1999 but should be similar issue. This is too old thread to use to reply etc Before just go changing out parts, have them tested. Local auto parts should be able to test starters for you. As for new battery, was the old one tested first? |
