Re: 1999 chevy malibu fuel filter disconnect broke?
I had the same problem when replacing my gas tank.
Here's what I did. I cut a section from a ball point pen casing, cut a slit down one side and forced it open and fit it over the fuel line. Then I slid the casing into the quick release joint and it spread the tines enough to release the connector. I make it sound easy, but I did this after hours of trial and error to get it off. Hope it helps. Todd 97 malibu v6 137k |

Re: 1999 chevy malibu fuel filter disconnect broke?
here is a tip that wish i would of known prior, the black quick connect fitting (with the tabs, i dont mean the green one) wasnt needed when replacing the fuel fitler because the new filter has the white clips for a secure connection, asIt could of saved me self alot of frustration and hours. we spent hours trying to separate it from the fuel filter witout breaking it so if it breaks THATS OKAY!!!! you dont need it, the male end of the new filter wont fit into the black not so quick connect. so follow usual way to separate the two, squeeze with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull filter out, force it if you have to but be cautious of fuel line of couse and if plastic breaks make sure no pieces are left in the line, the should be the black fitting and a metal ring. heres two pictures showing that the old fuel filter doesnt have the white clips like the new one. hope this helps.
