History repeats itself; 2003 MGF! better!

Since its launch in 1995, the MGF despite getting a regular ribbing from us hardcore sports car nuts has sold in massive numbers. 77,000 MGFs have been produced, with over 40,000 sales in the UK making it Britain's best selling car in the sports sector for the last six years.

Today MG announce the successor to the F with the new MGTF. The TF - designed by Peter Stevens - has evolved from the popular MGF and features a new exterior appearance, an all-new suspension design, higher performance engines and a host of new paint, trim and hood colours.

Rob Oldaker, MG Rover Group's Product Development director, explained: "The MGF has proved to be an amazing success having dominated its sector for the last six-years. The introduction of the new MGTF will enhance this popularity further. I have no doubt that the new TF, with its fresh new design style, new suspension with revised rear linkage geometry and a rich choice of feature specification and colour will produce even more exhilaration and retain MG's sales pole position."

I have to disagree, I like the styling of the MGF and dont think much of this.

Also whats with the name, MG has already made an MGTF, from 1953-1955.

It hasnt said much about the actual stats of the car, is it still K-Series engined?

you may be right... the new model seemed nice to me in original pics but i think less of it every time i see it. the old model was nice but u must admit its quite girly.
i guess the new one is MGTF mk2

I wouldnt say it looks girly but its certainly not agressive or the sort of car that appeals to a young driver.

I think my del sol looks sportier sitting beside my dads MGF, mine certainly has the sportier ride, but then again mine is modified and his isnt, perhaps if they were stock for stock it might be different.

Whatever anyone says about ehm they still have been really popular and have a reasonable turn of performance, youve got to do alot of modifications to an MGB for them to go as well as a stock F, all that and dad can get 45-50mpg.

The TF really isnt a new model anyway, its only a facelift on the MGF

Well for god's sake, let's hope Rover do what they did with the 45 and 25 and GET THAT RELIABILITY UP!!!!!!!! Nonetheless, I hear MG-Rover will be coming back to NZ soon, as they are about to close a deal with an importer (Let's hope it's Mr Giltrap) which means this car will be coming here YIPEE!!!!!!

I think you are all missing the Point.

Girly or not, the MGF was originally designed to look like its predesessors.
The grill looks like the original roadster etc and on top of all the small retro styling features the whole car still looks good today.

The MGTF is one of MG Rovers ABORTIONS!!!!!!!

They took a perfect design and Crapped all over it.

Gone is the regonisable MG grill and headlights thus losing its personality and face, and replaced with too many lines and creases here and there to make as MG Rover consider. "An Improvement".

I feel sorry for Gerry McGovern the MGF designer. What a way to see your design spoilt.

Its like taking a work of art and letting the Kids splash paint all over it.


The only benefit to owning the TF, is in that driving it, you don't have to look at how daft it is on the outside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
