03 windstar with P0340 & P1504
Hi all, I hope someone can help with a major problem. I have replaced the plugs, wires, coil pack.
I was getting the P0340 code so garage replaced the cam shaft sensor. Same problem of stalling in drive or reverse. Idle is about 900 Rpm but will rev up in neutral before stalling. Garage suggested timing chain be checked. Replaced IAC sensor and ran great. Went on 150 round trip with no problems and van ran better then ever. 2 days later after sitting back to same codes and stalling problems. Before I could take off the IAC sensor and it would run fine but this time it will stall anyway. Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated. |

The Synchronizer is like a distributor and if goes bad can completely fail and cause a no oil pressure situation causing internal damage to engine bearings. Do you here any sueaking from the passenger side of engine compartment??? I would fix the P0340 Code first then see if your IAC code comes back. How many miles on vehicle? Do a google for videos of replacement, you will find mostly videos for 3.0 but alot the same as 3.8, only difference is location. On the 3.8 it is on the passenger side of engine and 3.0 on the driver side of engine. |

Thanks for replying. Just turned 100,000 when it started having problems. No squeak at all from synchronizer . The garage replaced that with Motorcraft I believe. Once the IAC sensor was replaced, the van ran like new. Taking the new sensor off will even out the rough idle in neutral. Wondering how oftem OEM parts are defective?

I am sure that Motorcraft parts can be defective also but I have not heard of it very often. Have you double checked that they are motorcraft parts and that they did replace the synchhronizer?? When you say that you remove the sensor I assume that you are disconnecting the elecrical connecor from the IAC. Did the shop also install the IAC or did you do that your self? Have you checked to makesure the new IAC is the same as the old IAC? Was the gasket for the IAC also replaced? Was the throttle body also cleaned. Do you have your own scanner or did you have th codes read someplace? |
