Carburetor

67 Bonneville 2Dr HT
V8 6.6L 400cid

Is there a two barrel carburetor for this model? I was informed that this engine is considered a muscle car and it would guzzle a lot of gas with the use of a 4 barrel carburetor. The 2 barrel would give me better gas mileage and make the car a cruiser instead of a racer. I've checked Jeg's and couldn't locate one. Is there anyone that knows if a 2 barrel carb is available for this car?

Thanks

Re: Carburetor

You are getting wrong info here, first of all in the classical sense this is not a musclecar it is a full size cruiser. Second the Quadrajet primarys are actually smaller than the 2bbl carb that would have been OE. Tuned properly, all systems on the money, the Q' Jet is a better choice as long as you stay out of the secondarys.

It's almost like 4-American standard toilets, the primary are for #1(peeing), and secondary is for the shits.

Re: Carburetor

@ maxwedge: I just purchased a new Edelbrock carb from Jeg's and it was a 4bbl because they said it would give me better gas mileage. I'm not a car tech and I guess they got me on that one. I still have the original carb--its a 4bbl. Should I rebuild it and slap it back on?

@danielsatur: funny--thanks for vivid pic--lol

Thanks

Re: Carburetor

Yes if it is a Quadrajet that is in good shape, stay original it worked great when new. The Edelbrock has larger primarys and all things equal the Quad can out perform the E carb, but the E carb is much easier to tune and/or rebuild.
