Question 2000 Alero GLS 2.4L --TPS Sensor???

Greetings,

First off.. it's nice to see there is someplace to get a bit of help. My line of knowledge comes from working with computers not cars. That being said I'll continue.

My girlfriend has a 2000 Alero 4 door. This car is basically our only mode of transport. I'm disabled and I'm trying to keep the car running as best I can. Just recently the car would stutter at complete stops. Then it went to stalls. This doesn't happen when it's cold only when it's warm and within operating temps.

I replaced the TPS but the stuttering and stalling is still happening. I'm ready to go through the car to find the problem... but I don't know where to go from here. I've cleared the computer to clear any dash lights and hoping it would reset the TPS. This didn't work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Try pulling out and cleaning the IAC valve, be sure to clean the seat for the valve in the throttle body. Use throttle body cleaner to do so, something to dissolve carbon.

Thank you. I'm assuming the IAC is easy to find in the throttle body. I'll do a component location search. Then when I get access to the tools necessary I'll make sure to get this done.

Is there something I should be using to make sure the gasket doesn't get damaged?? Like WD40 maybe?

Update

I just got back from cleaning the IAC valve and it's seat. O-Ring looks good. Carbon build up was bad. It cleaned up well. All carbon was removed.

Road test showed that the hesitation is still present. Start from complete stop... still hesitates... but the idle is better. Thinking a plugged fuel filter.

I do see a cylindrical canister along the fuel rail. It has a vacuum line attached which leads to the throttle body. Is this the fuel regulator you're referring to?

PS. I really have to thank you guys for all the help. Money is VERY tight and any help I get means a lot to me.

Gentlemen!!

The problem has been found and repaired. Problem was the vacuum line leading to the MAP sensor. $0.69 cents to replace a close fitting hose. I'll be a better one later today.

Thanks for all your help.
