weak breaks in the traffic hit

Hi,
Is this normal that break pedal goes down much lower then usually
in the traffic hit? I thought it were disk pads and I changed them
but doesn't look like it helped. Funny thing is that looks like more
noticable if AC is on...

thanks

Re: weak breaks in the traffic hit

1) check for brake fluid leaks.

2) bleed or replace your brake fluid.

AC has nothing to do with your brakes.

Re: weak breaks in the traffic hit

A/C could affect braking if it's idling the engine up. It sounds like your brake fluid needs to flushed/replaced. How old is the car?

Now how in the world does the engine idling at hight rpm to compensating AC load will affect braking?

Re: weak breaks in the traffic hit

Because the engine is idling higher than normal......Like giving it more gas while braking...

Re: weak breaks in the traffic hit

The RPM compensation is to prevent the engine from stalling at idle when the AC compressor is engage, it is only effective during idling and not when the engine is driving the vehicle (not to mention it's only a few hundred RPM difference).

When the car is braking from speed and the transmission is engage, the car's momentum is actually driving the engine not the other way around, so the AC will not affect the braking (and remember the compensation is only during idle).

Please don't confuse other members by posting incorrect information.

Re: weak breaks in the traffic hit

That's not incorrect.. When decellerating with the a/c off, my engine shuts off the injectors, allowing the catalytic converter to be replenished with O2. With the air on, however, the injectors continue to fire while decellerating. I too notice poorer braking performance with the A/C engaged.

That's another incorrect info; injectors will not shut off unless you turn the ignition key off. The ECU will only decrease the volume of fuel being inject into the engine and try to keep the A/F ratio to 14.7 to 1 during deceleration.

Again the AC RPM compensation ONLY HAPPENS AT IDLE and the extra few hundred RPM power is being use by the AC compressor, that is why it’s call compensation not extra boost. That few hundred RPM power will never able to reach the wheel considering all the gear reductions and friction it has to go though

Even if you are decelerating with the transmission engage at idle rpm (most unlikely), the power flow is reverse (from wheel to engine), therefore brakes are not affected.

Re: weak breaks in the traffic hit

Weak breaks could be very dangerous in traffic rush. It could be a major problem and could invite very big accident. So if you don't have a good safety it may cost you very costly. It is always a good to have a better protection in advance.
