Alternator went out, no warning

If you see these symptoms, watch out. First, I lost a new battery. Replaced it and two months later, the car started rough - kept dying after starting. Then it idled too fast. Then, driving down the expressway the radio went out. Then got ABS warning and Traction Control warning. Lights went out. Car died.

Had to replace the alternator. Problem solved. But, there was no warning other than the above before it simply died on the road.

Man I miss the Charge / Discharge gauge!

What kind of "warning" are you looking for? The car was practically screaming at you that something was wrong. When you didn't listen, it shut itself off! Most auto parts stores have voltmeters for under $20.
