2002 Express LS 1500 Courtesy Lights Inop for RF door only
I have a loaded up(power: windows, locks, mirrors, etc) 2002 Express LS 1500 8-pass window van with an interior courtesy light problem. The interior courtesy lights work properly when I open the driver's (LF), rear cargo (RR), and side barn door style doors. When I open the front pass (RF) door, all the interior courtesy lights remain dark. I suspect that the "door jamb switch" is bad, so I've started the research to replace that part. When I look it up in my GM 02 Express Van factory service manual, I see a picture of it attached to the door latch mechanism (inside the door shell). It does not appear to be the classic GM plunger switch style I have seen for many, many years. When I look around the door opening on the truck, I do not see any kind of plunger style switch on the front doors, so it appears that it must be some kind of internal switch, as suggested by the picture. Next, I went to a GM parts supplier where I buy a lot of my genuine GM parts. They always look up parts by vin number. For my vin number they tell me the part I need is "22601896 - Door jamb switch." But, when I view a pic of this part, I see it is an old style plunger style switch. I do not think that is correct for my truck. (I have asked my parts supplier to look it up again)
Edit - my GM supplier came back with a different "correct" part number. It is - 16629726 Passenger side front side door lock assembly; less actuator. When I look at a pic of that part, I do not see any kind of switch, so I suspect that part is incorrect as well. However, for those of you that have knowledge and experience with this kind of problem, I have a few questions: 1) Am I on target with replacing the RF door jamb switch? 2) Is there a different door jamb switch I need, other than the ones noted above, that should be used in place of 22601896, or 16629726? Would you have the part number and a brief description of it, how it attaches, etc? Thanks in advance for any help from the forum !! Last edited by CT-Ken; 11-11-2010 at 12:11 PM. Reason: More info |
