cooling fan clutch

Here's a new one: with regards to rebuilding/refilling the radiator fan clutch with fresh fluid, recently heard from an individual who said he used to work at a Toyota dealership that they would use transmission fluid to do this job as opposed to the silicon fluid listed for the same job. Any sort of credibility to this idea? Would it even work properly? Don't have the bones for a new fan clutch right now but mine won't disengage>

Re: cooling fan clutch

I believe the silicone fan oil and transmission oil have different viscosity properties, which would make the fan kick in to operate at the wrong temperature with transmission oil.

I suggest you get a fan from a salvage yard.
