No Fuel

Hey all, need a little advice tonight. With the exception of almost stalling at idle earlier today, truck has been running fine until sitting for a few hours tonight. Just tried to start it, no fuel pressure! No pressure and no noise from it when key is turned, but gives out a whimper when key is turned off. Swapped F/Pump relay with fog light relay, no change. Can't find test jumper wire.

Is it safe to assume that the fuel pump is toast or is there something else I should be looking for?

Thanks,
Guy who wishes he'd replaced the fuel pump when he replaced the tank and not now, after a fill-up.

Re: No Fuel

Try smaking the tank with a rubber mallet about in the center under where the pump is mounted while somebody cranks it. If it start its almost a guarantee that the pump is bad.

NO do not throw parts atr it untill proper testing done.
If pump does not run check for power to it and good ground.

Jumper fuel pump with a 12 volt jumper and make sure you have a good ground.

If no run then you can be safe to replace it.

LOL, I just had a mechanic tell me that's a normal thing they do to check if the fuel pump is bad. The mechanic said it isn't a fool-proof test, but it's worth a shot. So, if it counts for anything, I second what this guy said. Couldn't hurt to try.

Re: No Fuel

On GM's it has a ruff success rate of 75%. It makes it a lot easier to get them into the shop as well!!

Don't bother on a ford. The plastic insulation around the windings melts and literally seizes the pump to the brushes/magnets.

Sometimes it will work on dodges as well.

Re: No Fuel

Well I didn't smack it with a mallet but that would've been handy if it hadn't died in my driveway. I figured the death wimper was sufficient evidence that it was getting power, so $400 later and I'm back in business! Kinda scary heat shrinking the wire harness near the exposed fuel lines lol!
