97 lumina still no start
97 3.1 sedan with 146,000 ok until now The kid ran out of gas and fried the fuel pump, replaced and now barely cranks. fuel pump is reading 42psi at rail have spark at cylinders I have done the following; new starter both crankshaft and camshaft position sensors new fp regulator new fuel filter cleaned and checked battery, draws down to 11.4 volts when key is turned onto start all fuses and fusable links checked out ok MAF sensor replaced anything else I can check and thanks for any suggestions |

Check valve timing (timing chain slipped?)

how do I make sure the valve is on compression stroke for number 1 cylinder, also crankshaft for same. I did notice a little slack in chain is this ok?

IF you pull a plug, can you smell gas getting to cylinders? (be careful due to fire/explosion hazard - don't try to start with plug out).
If not, maybe the injector(s) is/are clogged or disconnected, or the injector solenoid is dead/open circuit. If you are getting gas, there should be firing or misfiring. Maybe some dirt got in line when you changed fuel pump (do you mean fuel filter?) Maybe fuel filter is clogged with dirt/rust. Where are you measuring fuel line pressure? at tank or engine? |

Found problem while checking timing chain. binding of engine followed by no resistance. Removed valve cover, turned crank and three rockers moved the others just laid there like road kill. (Broken Camshaft)
Just coincidence the kid ran out of gas at the same time. thanks to all for suggestions
