Question alternator regulator wiring

My full size bronco has an internal voltage regulator on the alternator. It has two leads on it. My harness and wires are missing.....if i put new wires on the regulator, where should they go or lead to? top lead goes to??? bottom lead goes to????

thanx.

Re: alternator regulator wiring

If your alternator is charging somebody had problems getting the alternator to work and had a shop install a self exciting voltage regulator. If it isn't charging I would suggest going to a scrap yard and cut a plug and enough wire to go to your main harness. Inspect your harness surely you can see where they are cut. I would have to see a wiring diagram to answer your original question
but it would go to the ammeter in the dash.
If you didn't do it I'm sure it was done for the reason I suggested. You need a good wiring diagram to rewire it.

Re: alternator regulator wiring

I have looked at a wiring diagram for my truck....the only problem is it shows a three wire plug in for the voltage regulator and it appears someone has replaced this alternator with a different one with a two wire regulator plug in. This alternator is charging and shows to be charging in the dash board, but it is irregularly charging.....meaning low charge at idle and over charge while on the highway.

I could spend the $105 to buy the right alternator or I could somehow wire in this two wire regulator to somewhere in my truck to make it regulate the voltage output.

Who and why they did this......i dont know, but it has been done and buying a new alternator right now isnt an option for my pocket book.
