Question 93 Lumina Wierd Idle issue

I have a 93 Lumina Euro with a 3.1 V6 in it. She has over 131K miles on her. I replaced the battery and now she doesn't want to idle all of the time. When I first started her after putting the new battery in, she idled high around 2000 rpms and then corrected herself. She works fine going down the road, but when I go to stop, her RPM gauge starts going up and down and threatens to stall and sometimes does. She starts right back up, but also stalls sometimes when I start her back up. I have only had the car a couple of months and don't know a lot about her. I am going to replace the fuel filter and see if that helps. Has anyone else had this kind of problem with this car?

Re: 93 Lumina Wierd Idle issue

so many opinions when it comes to the lumina stall at red lights and eratic idle. I can tell you what I did, and it worked. first, syphon a pint of tranny fluid out of the tranny and add a pint of seafoam transtune. replace or clean the trottle position and idle air control sensors. drive the car normally for a couple days then get the tranny flushed. make sure to replace or clean the filter during this process. other things ppl have suggested is checking the cat converter, ignition module, spark plugs and wires. and the list goes on. do what I did first, then move on to checking the others. oh, and make sure you are doing the standards, such as oil changes and replacing the air filter and pcv valve. these are cheap things to do and will help your car stay running longer.
I see you live in columbia sc, Im north of you one hour "rock hill"...

Thanks for the suggestions. I did a little more research and found out that you have to let the ECM relearn the idle on the car once it loses power. I did this procedure and she is running great again.
