Buying An Evo... Need Advice

Well, I've been researching my options on buying an EVO.. Orginally I was going to stick with a 2003 EVO 8, being they are the cheapest option: But then after a month of 2 of thinking...I think I will rather invest in a MR. Now occording to my research, the MR is only available begging in the 2005 Evo 9 models and are rather expensive... so, are the MR's really worth the price??.. or should I stick with the other Evo models that are available.. I only know of the RS and the GSR.. thanks in advance.

Well my buddy has the Evo 9. His is the 06 SE model. That would be right under the MR whish is the top of the line. There really aren't that many differences.

Main differences for SE MR
Fin above car Fin NA
6spd 5spd
Gauges under stereo Guages NA

Everything is the same IIRC.

Totally forgot about the SE... So it goes.. RS, GSR, SE, MR.... Does that sound correct?

Yeah, I believe that is correct. How much are they going for now? Are you buying used? (Don't think they have new ones left.)

I've seen them anywhere from $18,000(mostly 03 and 04's) and up.. The lowest I have seen any MR used is $25,000

Well they are freaking awesome. My buddy and I took a really closed 90 degree corner at 40 mph! The handling was extreme! Had we gone an inch off the road we probably would have flipped, LOL.

Re: Buying An Evo... Need Advice

F the MR! If you really want the 6 speed, get ready for some tranny problems lol. You wouldn't believe the amount of people that swap on the 6 for the 5 speed due to problem after problem. There really isn't much over the gsr.

HID headlights.... can buy an aftermarket hid kit like I did for about $200
The upgraded suspension..... get some coilovers and you will be happy.
The vortex generator..... rexspeed.com
The wheels..... you will probably swap out for others
The gauges...... kinda worthless, get some autometers or defi's
The lip (mr se)..... choose from the many aftermarket ones available.

The best option would be to find an 06 SE, but those are REALLY hard to find now. You would be happy with an 06 GSR... I know I am lol.

Re: Buying An Evo... Need Advice

I'd get the earliest IX you can. Clipskid sold me on those . I dont think the MR is really worth it either, 6 speeds are nice, but not worth paying so much extra for IMO. If you put half of the extra couple grand you saved over the MR and put it into the GSR, the GSR would kick its ass anyway. Then again, a DSM with 20 grand invested in it would tear pretty much anything a new asshole .

Re: Buying An Evo... Need Advice

The MR is nice, but u pretty much get the same as any other evo. Maybe except for a couple MR decals. Now what makes it more expensive is the 6 speed tranny and the bilstein shocks, oh i cant forget to mention the vortex generator and bbs wheels. I have the SE and have every option as the MR except for the 6speed tranny and the vortec generator which is just a bunch of fins that guide air to ur rear spoiler.

RS?? I read that the RS models don't have a radio, power windows, or locks...etc. I'm not paying that much for a car without Power Windows or Power Locks.. Thats crazy..
