New '07 Tacoma 6 speed man question
Just picked up my new '07 Tacoma (v6 4x4 TRD package, 6 speed man).
Noticed that sometimes while shifting from 2nd into 3-rd gear I hear a clanking sound of some sort (it does not happen when I shift down from 4 to 3). Other times it takes a little effort to put it in 3rd (shifting up). The rest of the gears are silk smooth. Any idea what is with the 3rd. gear? Could this be because the vehicle is new or is this going to be a problem down the road? Otherwise the vehicle is a little noisy over 50mph but does handle well. Thanks for any input. |

Could just be that it needs to break in. Make sure you follow the break in procedure for the truck. You will need to take it easy for the first couple hundred miles.
Oh yes, premium fuel only in the V6. |

Re: New '07 Tacoma 6 speed man question
Funny you say that, I just bought one about 10 days ago and I was harping on the son about pushing in the clutch more from 2nd to 3rd, you can feel it more as a passenger. Heck, it was the tranny. I give. I do feel some vibration in the drive train..........geez!! that's why I traded in my Chevy for it.....anyhoo, could be the tires, they seem a bit loud. Gas mileage isn't what I hoped, but I'll give it time. 75-85 with thew A/C, I got 18. At that speed I guess it might be about right. I'm gonna be looking for the tail gate reinforcing stuff. Then I find out there is a leaf spring TSB out to.

Re: New '07 Tacoma 6 speed man question
I know that most people tell you break in period that you should take it slow and low. But only for like 200 miles. then I start driving it like I will for the rest of the vehicle life. I havent run into any issues either with doing it this way. Besides, then you will always get the same mileage out of the truck. You will have broken it in the way you want and will see the mileage stay the same. If you want the best gas mileage you can get over inflate your tires and stay out of the fast lane. otherwise drive it like you want and the truck will respond accordingly.
