Rear Door fix?

Hi, I am wondering if anyone may have some tips to help me fix the back gate of my 89 4Runner. The top of the back gate is all rusting out on me where the window comes out. My soft top snaps are there and there is starting to be a hole where the wiper is at it's lowest point. There is not enough metal to really fill over. It's become pretty soft and it's spreading all along the top of course.

I was thinking of cutting it all out along the top and fiberglassing some thin alluminum to fit in and use a second piece to meet at the bend, fiberglass them together and basically use windshield glue to fasten it to the good metal on the outer door itself?

Guess i will have to take the door right off, remove the glass window and start from there. I don't want water getting in the door and shorting out my window motor. It's brand new.

Is there any links where I could get some photos of work others have done? I know it's a pretty common problem with the back gates, but a whole gate is too much, besides everything but the rust up top is good.
