Serious Towing.

Hi.

I was wondering. Can I tow something hefty with my '98 Cavalier. It has a 2.2 and a manual 5 speed trans.

Here's my plan. I need to move a '93 Festiva I just bought about 6 hours from me. I don't have a truck, so my Cavalier is the only option. So, I was going to take all the unnecessary parts off the car, the Cavalier that is, and use a car dolly, so there's no weight on the rear springs.

It will just be me in the Cavalier, with one seat a motor, a transmission, and 4 wheels basically. Oh, the Festy weighs 1700lbs. So, if say the dolly weighs 300lbs, I'll need to be able to tow at least 2000lbs total.

If I remember correctly, a Cavy weighs around 2800lbs. I'd say I can cut that down to around 2400lbs. Maybe 2000 if I take the doors off. No doors is legal isn't it? I weigh 150lbs.

Is this possible, or will I just roast my clutch?

Thanks.

Re: Serious Towing.

say bye bye to it if u try it. its not going to work. its a cavi, not even meant to tow a kid on a skateboard lol. just junk the that thing or leave it and if u want to, buy another one where u r now. it will be cheaper in the long run and alot of time saved.

If only I hadn't already paid for it, I would look for another one. But I just couldn't pass this up. $350 for a '93 Festy with only one fixable problem can't be beat. I've seen them go for well over $1000 on Ebay.

Guess I'll be looking for a truck to borrow. Actually, I may still try it with my Cavalier. I really hate the car anyway. It's eaten up my last paycheck in parts and it still doesn't run correctly. So I feel a lot like this little smiley face dude. I've hit a brick wall, and now the only way through is to blow something up.

Thanks for the input.
