2001 Grand Am security Light

I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am with the security light continueing to come on, then the car not starting because the fuel line would be shut off when the key code was not recognized. I have seen this post quite a few times and no one seems to have the solution. I had the re-occuring problem a year ago and the mechanics found it may be the ignition module/sensor. The dealership payed for it to be replaced. But NOW, a year later, my light is starting to come on, and I'm not looking forward to it not starting when I am late, or having to pay another towing fee or mechanic bill for them hooking it up to their computers. Is there a way the system can just be shut off?? I don't think anyone is going to try and steal my car in rural Maine and I don't have an alarm system anyways...anyone been able to completely fix this problem??

Here ya go, summersuga. Welcome to the forum

Security relearn procedure:

1) Attempt to start the car by turning the key to the Start/Run Position.
2) Observe that the vehicle fails to start and that the security light is illuminated.
3) Release key to the 'ON/Accessory' Position. (DO NOT turn key to the 'off' position.)
4) Allow the vehicle to sit with the key in the 'ON/Accessory' Position for no less than 11 minutes.
5) Turn key to off position and allow the vehicle to remain in the 'OFF' position for no less than 30 seconds.
6) Repeat #1 - #5 for 3 cycles.
7) On 4th attempt, car should start.

NOTE : Since this is a fairly long procedure, I would limit all electrical sources, such as disconnecting headlights, to prevent discharge of battery.

NOTE 2 : It is SAFE to wait LONGER than the allotted time, but it is not safe to wait less time. I.e. 12 minutes instead of 11 minutes should be safe; however, waiting 10 minutes instead of 11 minutes is not safe.

Properly executed, this procedure should take approximately 35 minutes to complete.

Thanks for the info!! I think they used a similar procedure to get the car started last time. I printed it off just in case. Do you know if this is something that will just always happen with the car? Should I be worried if the security light randomly comes on while I am driving?

No problem. That procedure, if done correctly and for the reccomended amount of time, should completely reset the security system, and you shouldn't have it come back it on. If it comes back on, then there could be some other problem with a malfunction of the security system, and in that case, I a dealer should be able to figuire out exactly what is causing the fault. If it comes back on, after the doing the procedure, first try this: unplug your battery for 4 hours, recconect it, and then do the relearn again. If that doesn't fix it, then take it to the dealer.

Ok Everybody Try This I Had Nothing But Problem With My Security Light And Car Not Starting Go Out And Get A Key Copyied Of The Original One Without The Chip In It And Try That I Got One Cut Without A Chip And Hasnt Done It Since So Give It A Shot It Worked For Me Cause I Know I F*ckin Annoying It Is When Your Car Wont Start Cause Other Then This Retarded Problem These Are Awsome Cars Anyways Give It A Shot
