2000 Sunfire 2.2

steve_wiseman2002@yahoo.com Hi everybody. I'm new & I'm stuck. The Sunfire in question is my son's.Anybody got an idea how I can open his trunk? The release lever next to the driver's seat will not function, nor will the lock on the actual trunk. I did with great difficulty manage to get behind the rear seat, thinking that it would be easy from there, but could do nothing. All I managed to achieve was the uncovering of the nipple on the lever release cable. Limited manipulation proved fruitless. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind that I am a bit past it & will be sending a younger & slimmer person to try to resolve the problem.Thank you.

Sounds like it might be jammed shut if even the lock on the back wont open it. Unfortunatly, the button and the key are the only way to get in it, as the back seat releases are in the trunk. You might be able to pull the seats down with great force, but that would probably break them... Im outta ideas on this one.

Have you tried holding the release lever up while having someone pull open the trunk?

Try getting inside the trunk, get a light, and remove the latch itself. Could be fun.

Thumbs down Re: 2000 Sunfire 2.2

Thanks for the swift replies. I have already tried these suggestions. I did get in the trunk & unbolt the latch, but could not remove the lock cable, so the trunk lid only lifted about 3 inches. Still stumped, but thanks for trying.steve_wiseman2002@yahoo.com
