Egr
Okay i read another thread and someone said that the EGR reroutes some exhaust gases back into you intake mani. to relieve exhaust temp. Isn't that really bad though? I mean, doesn't that warm the air going into your engine, kinda canceling the effect or a cai, etc? Also, i'm in the middle of removing the intake manifold and can't seem to reach the egr pipe, any tips on removing that sucker? The exhaust is solid as a rock so no go

Re: Egr
nobody every said a EGR is suppose to help make power. in fact it robs you of power when it opens up. thats why alot of people just remove it all together. no idea how to remove it from the intake manifold side. all we did was cut the bung off that hooked up to the stock exhuast manifold and just welded it shut so it won't cause a humungus boost leak.

Re: Egr
so i'm guessing that when you welded the bung shut on the exhaust mani., you didn't seal up the intake mani. side? will the egr valve just stay shut since that pipe is disconnected or would i have to plug/ remove the egr valve as well?

Re: Egr
the stock exhaust manifold has a bung, the EGR is basically a valve with a metal tube that goes from the intake manifold to the exhuast manifold. welding up the bung on the exhuast manifold would make no difference because the whole manifold is going in the trash anyways. what you do is weld up the opening in the tube so when the valve tries to open, you won't get a giant boost leak.
some people do it another way, the remove the whole EGR valve from behind the intake manifold make use a metal plate ( or for hte really ghetto people ) use a quarter ( yes the 25 cent coin ) as a block off plate for that port and hold it into place with 2 bolts. i personally won't trust the quarter trick because it might fall out or leak.

Re: Egr
One thing that is never mentioned in here is everyone says remove it. But if you have a state that does Emission checks dont remove it just fix it. If you remove it you will fail testing. So any mods to the opening that can not be reversed quickly will be costly. I think this is why most people do the Quarter or Nickle trick. As for my self who has emissions. I am working another route and still pass such as a threaded tube that has the end welded shut . This way when emissions comes around I just remove my plug and reconnect the EGR. I will post when I get it fabed up..

Re: Egr
HA, i passed my car with no EGR and my state tested for all 3 gases, NoX ( caused by too high of exhuast temp so a EGR is a must ), CO, and HC.
i must admit that without the EGR valve, the NoX level was very close to the limit, but i theres nothing that alittle cheating can't fix. i ran my car to heat up my brand new cat. i also put in a gallon of denatured alcohol, then turned my timing waaaaaay back to as far back as it goes. passed the test on my first try, then undo everything you did and your good to go.
