proper alternator.

more info at my previous post. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=506366

tested my alternator at autozone. with everything on, my alternator was pushing like 5 amps. with everything off, zero. guy at autozone said that i needed a new alternator. problem is that there is a couple different ones....bosch, and valder sp? and a 70 and 90 amp. I have a 2.0 engine. still no help. when i called vw to find out which one i need, they said i would need to take the alternator before they would know. i would really rather have bought the alternator before taking the old one out, but thats not possible without knowing which i need. can anyone tell me which alternator i need. again its a 2000 VW Golf 2.0 automatic, and not sure if it matters but the guy at vw asked where made...brazil. THanks for the hell

Re: proper alternator.

on the back side of the alternator on the black cap (opposite from pulley) there should be a part number ***-***-*** then a letter like a, j, g ect...

Re: proper alternator.

with or without AC?
I'm pretty sure it is a 90A alternator and I would go with BOSCH - but like veedubmechanic said - get the part number
