quick rundown after changing oil last year the 3.1 was hard to start. next it started boging and dying at lights and jerking at any speed. next it just quit about a mile from home. no fuel at tbody. no problems showing on computer. acording to ecm everything was fine. i replaced the fuel pump. seemed to run fine then it would quit again. after some reading i went to the oil sending just behind the radiator on the block and shorted it. i got fuel pressure. so i replaced the sending unit and it ran ok but was still hard to start and after 3 days quit again. it had 160k on it and have never changed the plugs or anythig eles. i gave it new plugs, wires & dist. cap and rotor. same problem. i was about to change the oil pump when i got on here and maxwedge said to get a manual gauge on it i'd weather get a prostrate exam than go after that oil pump so i did. i had 50 - 74 lb. of pressure. next i put in a new ecm. this solved the one jet shutting on and off problem but not the quiting.
next came the switch mounted on the grill if it quits i flip the switch and i have fuel pump. i pulled the connector off the oil sending unit and went to strip back the insulation on the wire to put the extra wires on for the switch and the wire came apart. (now the lights came on) when i was shortin the switch i was bending the wire getting a conection. i still mounted the switch but haven't used it yet. seems to be running fine again not quiting.
hope this helps someone.
