96-98 windstar problems

I have a 98 windstar 180 000 kms on it. well it all started when sitting at a stop light the engine would rev up for a few seconds then down. Turn into stalling when turning into a parking stop. Then rough idle when in gear or parked which lead to p0306 and lean on bank two. Tried everything; changed coil pack and wires, maf, iac, plugs, changed around injectors, clean egr ports, looked for vacuum leak, did compression test. The only thing I did not do was a compression test when the engine was warmed up and all the plugs out. Misfire on 6 was from the head gasket break in between 5 and 6. I had no coolant lose or white smoke. I hope this can help some of you pinpoint your solution. I did the head gasket myself it was not that hard and took a couple of days. I had the head planed down and cleaned by a machine shop to make sure it was not warped. This is why it took a couple of days. The machine shop charged me $69.0 Canadian to do the work. Thanks for all the advice that I recieved from this site to help me in my problem.

Nice summary Kitch.

Is the head gasket you did the one close to the rad or near the firewall?

Does the Thunder in your profile stand for Thunder Bay?

Yes to both questions. Well at least I have a engine that will last now. The engine runs great idles at 700 to 900 not like before at 500 to 600. I am just breaking the gasket in this week then taking it to minni for the week. 7 hour drive, want to make sure the gasket will hold.
