Synthetic oil for Auto Transmission?

Hi Everyone

I just bought a recond 1999 CRV and wish to do oil change for auto
transmission. I would like to know if any of you tried using synthetic or
is it ok to use for CRV models?
I'll be changing the dual pump oil too, is there a drain valve for both
the dual pump and the auto trans or do I have to open the oil sump for a
total clean up.
Is there there anything else I should service other then the engine oil
and the fuel filter and ofcourse the spark plug (any recommendation on
spark plug type}

Thanks alot for your info.

Re: Synthetic oil for Auto Transmission?

There is a drain and fill plug on the rear end. It takes a 17mm wrench. You will need a pump of some kind to put the fluid back in.

Tranny. I wouldn't use any synthetic. Just honda fluid. You will need a 3/8 ratchet wrench for the drain plug. just wipe the magnetic shavings off the magnet before you put it back. And fill is through the dipstick hole.

Plugs either use NGK or DENSO

Re: Synthetic oil for Auto Transmission?

I recommend the synthetic for the tranny. Mobil 1 is a very good brand. I've had synthetic in my Crv for over a year and no problems. In fact the tranny seems to shift quicker and the fluid stays cleaner than whatever the heck was in it before. I also regularly take it over 5000 rpms and all is well. You can use it for the differential too. You can fill it if you have an easy pour nozzle adapter thing(screw straight on the bottle), some flexible hose to fit on it, and some patience. Whatever type you get, make sure it is Dexron III/Mercon rated. When you do the plugs I recommend the Iridiums from NGK or Denso. You might as well change the distributor cap too. It just screws straight off and on.

Dexron III/Mercon and honda ATF do not have the same ingrediances. And honda specifically says that if you absolutely must use it It may give you a harder shift than normal.
