Having a Z car idle problem
Im having a problem with my z car idleing at a low rpm with headlights or heater and even rear window defrost on.
its a 1986 300zx non-turbo. Trouble is, it will idle just fine without accesorys(?) on at 7-800rpm's. But I turn somthing on and the idle flexes from 1100-1400 up and down. I've done some testing to the throttle possition sensor and it was fine. The mass air flow sensor is also working. The car has 160+k miles. Any HELPFULL hints or solutions would greatly thanked. well when you turn on accessories your RPM is supposed to go up but that is quite a bit...i dont know what to tell you. maybe try adjusting the TPS sensor or Idle Control Valve....its doing what it is supposed to, just a little overboard.

Re: Having a Z car idle problem
Sounds like your FICD (Fast Idle Control Device) is on the blink.
Let me try and remember the VG30E(T).. I think its at the back of the engine on the throttle-body side. Just follow the vaccuum lines from everything at the back of the intake manifold back to the solenoids and check the electrical connectors on them all and spray them with electrical contact cleaner (from radioshack). I dunno if you'll be able to get a replacement FICD on its own (if it comes to that), you may have to buy the whole idle assembly. Also, check the ECU for codes, that should tell you if anything major is wrong. -Mike |

Re: Having a Z car idle problem
Well I did check the ECU and it has no codes.
I also have the idle control valve all the way down as far as it will go. What dose FICD stand for? And what dose it do? Thanks |

Re: Having a Z car idle problem
ok, in that case it could be just about anything. Have you checked your ecu for codes?

Re: Having a Z car idle problem
Then again I have heard of older volkwagons doing the same. I now a guy who has Talked about that before come to think of it. Ill inquire him about it also.
Glad it dose not idle 1400-1700 though that must suck big. I have cheked the ECU for codes and it has nothing unless I am cheking it the wrong way. |
