67 vista cruise (long story)
A long, long time ago. In a land far, far away, We had a 1967 Vista
Cruiser that ran. Since that time an evil mist has covered the land. I think I see in the distance a slight lifting of the heavy fog that has blanketed our lives for, low, these many years. Okay-plain english: My husband took the heads off to get them redone. And then he became unable to put them back himself due an unfortunate "connection" with some electricity at his job. After a period of way too long, we made a bad choice in asking the local high school auto shop to put the heads back on. The shop teacher said it would be no problem. Quite a simple job actually, he said. and FREE to boot! So the car was towed from the driveway to the school. Days passed, weeks passed-you get the idea. Well they made a few mistakes, like using the wrong bolts. That meant somehow getting those out and re-threading (?) the bolt holes. (I am just the wife of the car, I mean car OWNER, so I don't know what I am actually saying-but I hope you all do!) They put a wee dent in the rear. They allowed a hoodlum to carve his logo into the paint on the hood and write his name on the dash. Can you believe it? A high school student smart enough to write his very own name! Thank goodness for the Los Angeles Unified School District! Well all of that was bad, so we rescued the car and brought it home to sit in the drive for another way too long amount of time. Finally-enough money to tow it to a reputable mechanic!! TADA! he got it running! But that was how he found out about the real trouble the school did. It might have been when they were tightening those bolts down good and tight, or who the heck knows, but the block is cracked. So I guess we are shopping for a motor now. This is going to be the six million dollar car eventually! The towing alone has probably cost more that it's worth, *sigh*. But DH really loves that car, and I really love DH, so here we are, asking you all "where should we start looking?" Thanks Kathy |
