intermittent door lock problem

My wife has a 2000 dodge intrepid. She has been having a problem of the drivers door lock not working intermittently. When this happens,
neither the keyless remote or key will unlock the door and she has
to open the door from the passenger side.
Any ideas as to what my be causing this??

Re: intermittent door lock problem

Do the door lock cycle with the RKE and still not work? You may have a problem with the door latch or links to it. Has anyone had a slimjim in that door? The links could be bent. Also a lubrication issure (rust) with the droor latch.

Re: intermittent door lock problem

it likely the solonoid which controls the lock which is part of the latch is failing. They tend to seize up and not allow any operation.

Re: intermittent door lock problem

Is it confined to just the drivers door or does it act the same way on the passenger door as well?
