Open air subs

Hi Kids,
I have 2 questions to see if anyone can answer,

the first is does anybody know where I can buy open air subs? (Subs that do NOT require an enclosure.

and second, how do regular subs wound without enclosures? The reason I ask is I have an 8 inch hole in my rear deck from where my stock sub was, and rather than stuff my trunk with a box, I was thinking of just putting a sub in the stock location. The question is, will it sound ok? I'm not looking for earth shattering bass here, just some bass, maybe a little louder than normal...
