how to change serpentine (drive) belt?
Has anyone changed their own serpentine belt on a 2001 malibu V-6. It looks like you have to support the engine and remove the motor mount. Where do you place the jack to support the engine?

Re: how to change serpentine (drive) belt?
place a board on top of the jack pad and raise it by the oil pan, this is not the recommended method but it works, be careful and jack the engine no further than needed to unload the frt engine mount and gain sufficient clearance to pull the belt through

That's the way I did it. I was a little concerned considering there is a warning right above the radiator stating "do not lift engine by oil pan". It worked just fine. The was suprisingly easy I was expecting it to take much longer. 15-20 minutes and I was done.

Do you remember what size socket you used?
I tried doing this over the weekend and couldn't get a 3/4" or a 19mm to seat all the way down. Also, the next size up I have was starting to slip/strip. I stopped to avoid damaging the nuts, but I can't quite figure out why they wouldn't seat right. |

Re: how to change serpentine (drive) belt?
I can't recall any of the sizes. I am almost certain there were any metric involved.
Do you know the torque that should be applied to the motor mount bolts? I don't own a shop manual for this car. |
