Able to bypass AC on '89 Cutlass Supreme?

Hi all,

My AC compressor is seized on my '89 Cutlass Supreme SL (2.8 L V6).

I've seen a few threads on similar topics but with no conclusive results. What I"m wondering is:

- can one install a shorter belt to bypass? It seems like a shorter belt would still touch the water pump pulley on the flat side but maybe not enough.
- can an idler arm pulley be installed and the no A/C belt used without the existing A/C compressor interfering?
- can the A/C compressor be removed without having to discharge the cooling agent?

Thanks for anyone who may have suggestions. Specific details about installing an idler arm pulley would be very helpful.

Solution!!

Well, no one posted any ideas but I thought I'd share in the event that someone else could benefit.

You CAN bypass the A/C by purchasing an idler pulley (~$32.00 CDN) and a NO A/C belt. Effectively, this turns the belt configuration into the that of a NO A/C model, without having to touch the A/C compressor at all.

Cheers.
