Able to bypass AC on '89 Cutlass Supreme?
Hi all,
My AC compressor is seized on my '89 Cutlass Supreme SL (2.8 L V6). I've seen a few threads on similar topics but with no conclusive results. What I"m wondering is: - can one install a shorter belt to bypass? It seems like a shorter belt would still touch the water pump pulley on the flat side but maybe not enough. - can an idler arm pulley be installed and the no A/C belt used without the existing A/C compressor interfering? - can the A/C compressor be removed without having to discharge the cooling agent? Thanks for anyone who may have suggestions. Specific details about installing an idler arm pulley would be very helpful. Paul |

Solution!!
Well, no one posted any ideas but I thought I'd share in the event that someone else could benefit.
You CAN bypass the A/C by purchasing an idler pulley (~$32.00 CDN) and a NO A/C belt. Effectively, this turns the belt configuration into the that of a NO A/C model, without having to touch the A/C compressor at all. Cheers. p. |
