engine stalls when cold

My poor '88 Trooper (automatic) stalls when the engine isn't warmed up, about ten minutes of driving. It just bogs out after the rpms drop below 500. Can anyone suggest some steps to fix this before I have to take it in to the professionals?

stalling

hey i've been having some trouble with my 91' trooper the last few days. its been in the teens here so its been pretty cold. i've had it for 2 yrs now and never had any problems like this before. the problem started this weekend. i could have it warmed up and be driving along and all of a sudden the throtle is non responsive and the engine dies. if i let it set for about 5 minutes it will start back up. i thought it might be icing up but this morning it died on me again and i haven't been able to get it started since. i tried starting it again this morning but all it does is spit and sputter. i know i'm getting fuel because it smells strongly of fuel under the hood like its flooding. does any one have any input on this? if so it would be much appreciated for it is my main transportation to and from work.

Re: engine stalls when cold

found what seems to be the problem. i traced it clear back to the tank like the fuel pump was bad. but when i got the tank out, i saw that the power wire had been broken and was periodically touching to make contact. that would explain why it was dieing and sometimes starting or sputtering but still getting fuel sometimes and running well. i also picked up a fuel tank at a wrecking yard with a pump and noticed that some one had all ready made a repair to the positive wire on the pump. is this some thing that is known for the isuzu's?
