QUAD 4 Timing.

Hi , New here . I took my calais into the shop last week to have the water pump replaced , they tore the engine apart , It was ridiculous , The said I HAD to have my head gaskets replaced but I never had a compression problem or anything , No water in the oil , Nodda. So I told them just do the damn water pump and I will be there in 4 hours to pick it up. Well , I went to drive it away and at 3000 rpm it starts to back fire like a bastard. SO I got it home , after blowing my muffler to hell and I called one of my more mechanically inclined about oldsmobiles friends over and he hit it with the timing light , The screwed my timing off..I have no more finances to be putting into the car at the moment. Can anyone tell me how to time the 2.3 QUAD 4 ? I'd appreciate any help.
