radar detectors

im shopping for radar detectors and im hearing that to get a really reliable one, u need to spend about 250-300. is this true. if it is im willing to do it, possibly a passport of even valentine 1 (400), im wondering if anybody has any ideas ona way to get one i can rely on without spending this much money.

K40 hardwired with front/side/rear protection. This is the best way to go but probably the most expensive.

theres a huge difference between the $100-200 and the $300-400 detectors. the only ones i'd consider are the passport 8500 and the valentine 1. and dont pay retail, use ebay or just some random wholesale website. 8500s usually go for ~250 and valentines for ~330. i have about 20 of them on my watch list right now

oh. and beltronics is a fairly reputable brand. their upper models (980 and 990 i think?) are supposedly comparable to the 2 i mentioned but i havent had personal experience with them. and stay away from cobra.

I would suggest three things:

If you need a radar detector, the easiest thing to do would be to SLOW DOWN. It's cheaper!
If you're insistent, get a Valentine One. Don't buy anything else if you're going to buy anything at all. I just picked up a Valentine One, and I'm glad I did.
NEVER BUY A RADAR DETECTOR OFF EBAY. You have no idea how that thing has been treated or what has been done to it. You're relying on it to work perfectly every time. How are you gonna know if you can trust how it has been handled?
I would definately go with the Velentine One as first choice, then i would go with the K40, thats the one i have, works awesome have not got a ticket since ive had it and i drive about 90 on the highway, and it gives plenty of warning for you to slow down.

I think I'll take the slowing down advice. I'll take the Valentine advice when I get an ass-kicking ticket. STILL clean!
