Homelink Mods

Well, I finally put the HomeLink mod in the '99 LTZ this weekend. I had to replace my power roof and while I was at it. I stole the power from the passenger mirror. I placed the unit above the driver visor. Will take a few pics. I bought the unit off eBay. Now my daughter has a functioning factory sunroof and a HomeLink that works both garage doors.

The unit came from http://www.sunroofdoctor.com/ . It works great!

Re: Homelink Mods

What, exactly, does this unit do? Is it just for garage doors or can it do other things? gw84

Just garage doors. I have seen references to them being factory installed in the Lumina but never actually seen one. It wasn't an option on the 99 LTZ when we bought it. It's kind of nice though. No FOB to worry about

Re: Homelink Mods

that's cool. I was thinking of OnStar or someting that "tracks" your vehicle if stolen. Obviously, HOMElink, is for the home...don't know what I was thinkin! From your pic, it should look really good in there. Where did you install it? And what do the other buttons do?

I wish I had OnStar. I believe you could get it on a 99 Lumina but I think it's very rare. This is just remotes for your garages and gates. I installed in the headliner. It was a little tricky as the headliner is pretty thick. I had to cut a oblong hole and shave some of the backing off. I am watching to see how it holds up.

An OnStar unit would be cool but you would need a bunch of stuff to install one from a wrecked car assuming you could find one. I would also like to put a GM XM unit in but I think the don't make a direct replacement other than aftermarket.
