Coil Packs?
I was hoping someone could tell me what coil packs are and what they do.. would there be any reason why I might want to replace or upgrade them? I have a 93 zx NA with 110k miles. Someone told me a while back that upgrading or replacing them would be good.. or something like that.. I just wasnt sure what purpose they served and if it would be a good idea. I guess I would just like to know about them before I do anything. Thanks!

Unlike older vehicles that used a distributor to fire the spark plugs, modern cars have coil packs that sit on top of the spark plugs and provide a direct source of power. Upgrading these can wait until the point where you are running so much boost that it takes more power to just light the fuel off in time. Doing this upgrade on a NA or lightly modded turbo will yield very little in the way of power or better drivablity. If yours are malfunctioning then by all means fix the problem but if you are looking for more power, look else where, like the "destroying the world in a Z32" sticky. I'm trying to get more info like this in there but its alot of stuff to add.
Welcome to the Past Z forum.

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. What do you mean by "destroying the world in a Z32"?

Re: Coil Packs?
in that video it looks deep aqua, the picture is hard to tell... i always thought it was green but it quite possibly could be the blue colour

it is officially called blue sapphire. which it is a dark blue, but in bright sunlight, it turns a purplish color and other times a greyish color, i love it.
