Actually, a great car to start off with is an inexpensive rear wheel drive car that wasn't built to be an economy car (something like a mustang, camaro, etc would do). But the Focus has great handling and a fun shifter from what I have read.
I want the Focus ZX3 as my daily driver but need to save up for it.

I've had my car for 4 months now, and I still love to drive it as much as the day I got it.

Now, an SVT Focus is a pretty good place to start. But, its still a FF car that's fighting physics to get the best performance (ie weight distribution, weight transfer under accerlation, etc).
Still, I'd love to have one! The best bang for the buck around along with the Subaru WRX.
