97 Chevy C1500 5.0 Engine cuts out while driving down the highway

I have a 97 Chevy Silverado with a 5.0. While driving down the road the engine will just shut off and then "so far" starts running again. Anyone got any ideas of what to do? No codes have popped up.

Does the whole truck go dead? By that I mean the dash gauges, headlights, etc.

yes it happens real quick. It is like the truck turns off then it comes right back on. It has happend taking off and then just comes back on. When it happend pulling out of the drive way I stopped and the sarted it back up. Seems to be very speraddick. I found some old fourms with a simaliar issue and they said to replace the ignition switch.

IIRMC my 96 with the 5.7 did the same thing, I cleaned and tightened the battery posts and cable ends and have not had a problem since.

This is excellent advise. Try it 1st and post back.

if the tightning the battery doesn't work try the ignition control module its located under the hood and the coil wire plugs into it... i have a 99 suburban 5.7 very well maintained one night at the rosebowl after a ucla game it started and as i let it warm up no problem but as soon as i put in gear and got under load it stalled try to start it and battery went dead waited for aaa got a jump and sme thing finally got out of parking lot onto freeway and it stalls on freeway and then came back on very weird symptoms almost as if fuel pump was going out after about three times of this pulled over had it towed home next day put new battery out of my other car started right up drove it a couple hours took the original battery to autozone checked out fine put it in and the problem came back all over again made it home and while it cutting out with the good battery i happen to have an ignition control module off a 4.3 i did an engine swap on changed it out and never had a problem again thank god hope this helps

I am having the same issue after a new HT383 Stroker was dropped in. I have swapped the coil and Ignition Module. I also purchased a tuned black box ECM, understanding its limits. It has a random cut out and starts right back while driving, usually when the accelerator is being pushed at around 75'ish.

the dash speed is a incorrect .. the ECM/PCM has to change the software.on GM trucks the speed limiter is 100MPH.
