1994 camry flooding out. help?
my 1994 toyota camry keeps stalling when i go to slow down, take my foot off the gas, or try to stay at an idle. when it begins to shake like its going to stall i hit the gas, and its fine as long as theres gas coming to it. ive already replaced me wires, cap, rotor, plugs, distributor, map sensor. 2 mechanic shops have diagnosed it wrong. when it stalls out it shakes and the rpm's drop real low. then the whole car shutters and stalls out. when i turn it back on theres a strong smell of gas. im pretty sure its flooding out. i dont kno what else could be causing this. please help.

Re: 1994 camry flooding out. help?
Clean the throttle body paying particular attention to spraying the cleaner liberally down in to the hole in the base of the throttle body. That hole leads to your idle air control valve where the problem may exist. Spray the cleaner liberally down in to that hole and let it soak while you go on to clean the rest of the throttle body.
If cleaning the throttle body doesn't help the situation, then test the engine coolant temperature sensor. It may be out of range and is constantly telling the computer the car is still cold. This would result in an overly rich mixture when the car is warm. You will need a digital volt/ohmeter and the specs from any manual to do this. If you don't have a manual you can download a Toyota factory service manual at the top of this forum's home page. Download the generation 3 manual. The ECT sensor, as Toyota calls it in their manuals, is located on a water port to the right of the cylinder head, as you are standing in front of the engine. You will see 3 sensors there. It the one under the green plastic connector. Carefully remove the connector and then touch the 2 probes of the meter to the 2 prongs of the sensor, to get your reading. Mike |
