Location of REM (Rear Electronic Module) in a `99?
I'm in the process of trying to figure out what is draining the battery on my `99, and the latest
findings seem to indicate that the culprit may be the REM, or one of it's attachments. Where exactly is this beast located? I've read a few things that seem to point to it being located within the passenger compartment, in the right rear area behind the trim/coverings, but I want to know for certain before I start tearing sh*t up and possibly incurring the wrath of Wifey, especially if it's not there! ![]() Any help appreciated! |

Re: Location of REM (Rear Electronic Module) in a `99?
The Rem is located behind the jack on the right rear cargo area. Open the jack pannel door. Remove the jack and the jack bracket. At this piont you can either cut the foam backer to get to the REM or the following. Remove the seatbelt from the rear anchor (by the window). It takes a t-60 drive. Remove the screws and plastic holdowns. Carefully remove the plastic part. Start to remove the side pannel from the rear. You only have to pry if loose in the rear. Carefully remove the plastic foar from the corner of the window. You should now be able to see the REM and all the connectors.

Re: Location of REM (Rear Electronic Module) in a `99?
I am having issues with my REM on my 2001 Windstar. My Windstar started giving me message on my message center of "Check right rear taillamp". When I put my foot on the brake, both brake lights come on. But when I turn the lights on, I noticed that both filaments of that bulb come on the right side without my foot on the brake. I took it into my Ford service to diagnose, and was told my REM needed replaced, but is now obsolete. My number is 1F2SZ13B524AA, but I cannot even find a used one in the junkyard. I did find one with the suffix of AE, but was advised I should get one that was an exact match, letter for letter and number for number. Anyone know where I can find one to match mine, as I get tired of everytime I put my foot on the brake, I get that annoying beep. Or, does anyone know if another one with a slightly different number would work without any issues? Any help someone could give me would be greatly appreciated,

Re: Location of REM (Rear Electronic Module) in a `99?
Before spending time and money obtaining a new REM, I would spend a moment ( or even a month) being skeptical. The Ford technician may be correct, but what's more likely to fail ... the lamps, or lamp holders, that are exposed to high temps and weather ... perhaps the wiring between the lamps and REM ... or the protected REM itself? I would remove the lamps, inspect and lubricate the lamp holders... replace the lamps with new. The external lamps get a rather constant 12v supply, and depend on such as the REM for a ground path. All it takes is for a unplanned ground path to appear, and all sort of crazies can occur.
Good luck! |
