I have a mid-2000's Corolla that has had continuous evap cannister failures. Have had it replaced 4 times, at a cost of ~$500 each time. I finally decided "no more", and am just living with the codes it throws.
Now, however, the cannister is sufficiently bad that I can't fill my gas tank anymore - it won't allow the tank to vent. So, I'd like to remove the cannister from the vent line completely.
I can easily remove the tank vent line from the cannister. But then, what to do with the loose end of the hose? I don't want water etc. working its way into my tank. I'd like to minimize fume release, as much as possible without a cannister. Also, is there a safety issue in the case of a rollover which I should worry about? I know there are rollover valves you can buy.
Any make/model-specific tips, or even general guidance, would be appreciated.
Oh, and before anyone asks: No, I don't overfill or 'top-up' my gas tank.
