I am a little nervous of posting this ongoing project of mine here, after seeing so many beutiful and spectacular models projects, from boxstock to full scrachtbuilt, I feel mine don't stand up for the craftmanship grade shown by my fellow scale modelers here!!!
This was another short budget project, is something that I work on and off at my workbench, again as the Sunoco Camaro posted in the finished project area, this Grand Sport model is very far of been a perfect replica, but again I enjoy the little challenge and what I have acomplished until now.
The chassis and all the fittings are made of brass tubing, rod, square and brass sheet, it was painted in gloss black, the wheels are scrachtbuilt one at a time, but they look wrong in detail and size, the tires are "stand ins" for the picture, since I haven't finished the scrachtbuilt ones(started is more like it:tongue:) I plan to do new tires and wheels and trow these away...which where a pain to made in the first place:headshake The gas tank and cockpit seats where "heat formed" in the balsa "bucks" shown in the picture.
All the new interior and bucket seats, dash and rollcage are on the works, and the engine is "almost" finished.....again NOT perfect but will do. Sorry for the "info banner" in one of the photos, it was a mistake I made for my back up...sorry!!

Wow! You shouldn't put your work down so much...the engine and chassis are fantastically great!:smokin:
I wanted to do a GS out of the Monogram 1/8th Corvette, but chickened out on it as there was just sooo much to do! Will be doing Bob Johnson's '8-Ball' Daytona car instead.
I would advise you to spent your time on just one perfect master for the wheels, (or one for each size) and then cast them. If you get one that's perfect you can mould loads of them that are perfect, (I bet you'll want more for another Corvette job one day!) :evillol:

WOW, thanks all for the kind and encouraging comments, they are greatly appreciated and honor for me!!
cinqster,
Oh my, an 1/8 racing Corvette...with all that magnificent talent and eye for detail you have I am pretty sure it will be a stunner, just like your current project, which is SUPERB!!!
You are right about the approach to make the new wheels and that is what I am planning to do, in fact for the tires also(side walls), I probably will start next month with the two masters for the wheels, front and back, will see how it comes out.

Not sure about those actual wheels as my knowledge of older American stuff is not too good (magnesium Halibrands, IIRC?). You may be able to make just one wheel centre master then cast it and then make two lots rims with different offsets. I did this on my RS60 and it makes life a little easier! :)

Awesome work so far! I've been working on the 24th scale AM kit and doing lots of correcting so I can somewhat feel what your going through. Keep up the good work and we are sure to follow...

Thanks for the positive comment about this build, appreciated a lot.
I have seen your project and is simply amazing, the amount of detail and corrections you are making to that kit will make it into a 1/24 scale masterpiece, I have a Accurate G.S.(white Corvette) somewhere in my workshop and plan to build it some day, your build have shown me a LOT of things that can be improved and make them better...but also the amount of scrachtbuilding you are doing is quite big and impresive...I can't wait to see your next update.
By the way, my 1/12 G.S. Corvette will be in the same racing colors/driver as yours, I just fell in love with it when I saw a couple of years ago it in the restoration log by the company who did the work on it, have to love those "top rocket tail lights" and copper strips for grounding the CB!!!!!!!!!!!!! also the neo-glow red stripe on that great medium blue just look GREAT!

Thanks for those kind words of motivation! I need to get back to the bench and get some more done on the car. If you have any questions regarding the car, please don't hesitate to ask. I feel like I know the car inside and out due to all the research I have done. The VRM decal sheet is great and while it is in 24th scale, maybe you can scan the needed decals, enlarge them and print your own to scale. That or see if VRM can do you a set in 1/12th. The color is a slightly modified 1959 Caddilac Pelham Blue but I don't think too many people, if any, would notice if you just used the Caddy color.
If you get them wheels and tires mastered up and cast, I'm sure there are a few of us here that would throw some money at you for a set. I, too have a 1/12 scale Vette in my to build stash and maybe a larger scale grand sport is in the cards for it. Where did you get the Webbers from?

Torinobradley,
Thanks for the tips and info help on the real car, greatly appreciated!!
I was thinking the same about the decals, the good thing about this car is that there not to many of them to reproduce or the artwork is to complicated, unlike modern day racing Corvettes, WOW, I love the "Bad Boys" racing artwork on those!!!
The Webbers as well as the intake are scrachtbuilt from styrene rod, tubing and epoxy putty with bit and pieces of plastic for detail and "flared" aluminum tubing trumpets , using the pictures at the Corvette restoration website and a Webber performance handbook, theres about 95 individual pieces in that area alone....again it would have been much more easy to do one unit and cast in resin the rest but again I took the "dificult and tedius" way of making each one....and that have it down side some times!!
