HI, My 96 Dodge Ram van w 3.9 has been acting up lately. While accelerating the transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd fine, then winds way up and wont shift until I let off the gas.:headshake Sometimes slightly slipping , sometimes shifting right into gear. Occasionally under very slow acceleration it will shift just fine. Is something in the trans sticking? or a throttle/trans problem? I have been babying it into 3rd and it doesnt seem to be getting any worse except the first few shifts when it first starts moving. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thought about using a tranny fix in a bottle but its cold here in OH and it is kinda like loading a muzzleloader getting that lucas stuff down the cold tube.

When cold, a tranny will delay the 2nd to 3rd shift so that the higher RPMs will help things warm up faster. This could be your problem or you could just need a fluid/filter change. It doesn't sound like you're facing anything too serious.

Used the Lucas oil tranny fix in a bottle. Took a cpl hundred miles, but whatever was sticking freed itself. Shifting just fine. thanks.

It's always nice to save the cost of a rebuild. :)

Sounds like it's time for a fluid change this summer.
