How do I manually replace the fuel filter? Where is it and how do I do it. Can't afford a mechanic and want to see if the wonderful people on this site can help me.

Put the vehicle on 4 jack stands. The fuel pump is usually close to the fuel tank. Along side the frame the filter is in a plastic case next to the fuel pump.
Have a 1/4 drive socket set and a new filter. Most of them have a plastic clip you press on and pull apart. Some of them require a tool available at most parts stores. Be careful and don't get fuel on you when doing this. As they want to leak after the filter is removed have the new one before starting.

This location and procedure is relevant for newer EFI trucks.

Since this vehicle is an '82, the fuel filter is in the carburetor, which is on top of the engine.

Remove the air cleaner on the engine, to get to the carb.

Depending on the carburetor model, the fuel filter is either inside the housing where the fuel line goes to the carb, or the filter is actually a small metal cannister that screws to the side of the carb, witha fuel line at one end.
