Hi guys - trying to decide what to do with this truck. 135,000 miles.

2001 F150 Supercrew 4.6 Lariat all the bells and whistles, engine was run out of oil and is fried. Engine still runs but makes alot of noise.

Shopping around, I can get used engines for under 1,000 dollars, but individuals don't offer warranties, so engines outright are only as good as the seller's word.

Used engines from junkyards offer 90 days warranties, but the cost is 1,500 to 2,000. Remanufactured engines run 2,500 and up.

Basic costs to have the engine replaced people are saying right around 800 dollars.

I live just north of Pittsburgh and trying to determine what is the best solution - I am even considering trading in or selling outright and buying another truck.

Thanks Prof :banghead::runaround:

The book says 13 hours to change it.A general rule with an used engine is to hear it run first before it gets pulled,most yards do not do this and assume it runs good.If you don't,you will get "burned" and I have seen it a few times.Make sure there are no holes in the block,Jasper makes you pay the core charge if there is a hole in the block.Any 4.6 out of a car will fit,you have to change the timing cover,oil pan and oil pump tube also the exhuast manifolds.Also inspect the exhaust manifolds off the truck,known for breaking in pieces causing an exhaust leak.Replace the exhaust manifolds if needed.

not sure how far away you are from me.........but i have a 4.6L here in buffalo, ny with just under 100,000 miles on it that i pulled from my thunderbird. the car smacked a telephone pole right @ the firewall. never touched the engine but totaled the car. i had a second t-bird so figured it wouldnt hurt to have a spare engine. its been sitting for about a year. i do have video of it running just before i pulled it. i have taken a few small parts from it here and there is all. $100.00 and its yours if your interested :)

HI guys - just to close out this item - I found a good engine from a 2002 Grand Marquis for 300 dollars. Got the truck to a friends' garage and 1500 later we had a running truck. Lots had to be changed over to the Marquis engine to make it work in an F150, but it seems fine. The truck threw a P0320 code today that I am going to start investigating. Thanks Prof
