or

" A dodge"

As much as it will break your heart to hear, owning a car isn't just about how fast it can get to 60 or how fast it can do the 1/4 mile in. I;d personally take any Ferrari (except the Mondil) over just about any other car no matter how much faster or cheaper it may be.

Besides, the new Viper looks like sh*t. And who wouldn't want to say they own a Ferrari?

I would take a mondial over a viper any day of the week. Vipers are ugly, hot in the cabin, they sound like two weak 5 cylinder engines put together and they are extremely vague at the limit.
why would you want a viper is the question.

well not completely because the Aston's design is quite nice.
What makes me angry is the Jaguar S type, the chassis is a Ford Taurus with a Jaguar body style. That makes me so sick that a car company that makes some of the tackiest cars is buying companies that make some of the most beautiful cars.

Chris

Well, even the Vanquish has some cheaper ford switchgear. Also, the aluminum on the steering wheel isnt aluminum; its painted plastic:rolleyes:

But as for the Viper/575 Maranello debate; the Ferrari may not be as outright fast, but it is fast enough to be thrilling. Also, it is more rare, completely hand-made, has more panache, is more comfortable inside, etc.

Essentially, you have the law of diminishing returns; you have to spend more and more for less and less. And it comes down to the fact that if you can afford a 575 Maranello, you would have a Viper if you wanted one.

Yes, it is painted plastic; apparently shaping the aluminum wasnt practical; it would bend to easily or not have a nice grain to it.
Oh well; it is a gorgeous car.

I don't know why everyone gets so bent on who owns who. Fiat owns Ferrari, and GM will probably buy Fiat. So, will you feel like you're driving a Chevy if you have a Ferrari? VW owens Bugatti/Lamborghini/Bentley and a host of others. Because Ford owns Aston-Martin doesn't make it a Ford. Jags are still made in England. As for the Viper / Ferrari thing. It really isn't a matter of cost. I don't know anyone that owns a Viper that can't own a Ferrari. The new buyer demographics are quite similar. It is a matter of choice. For me, I wanted a purpose built race car that I can track and still be legal to drive on the street. So I have the Viper. If I want a true GT, then I'll get the new AmV8 coming out next year or the Maserati 4200 or a 575. They are different cars built for different things. As said above, 0-60 top speed and track times are only part of a car.

Very nicely put.

Jimster

The Viper is a very crass and brutish machine- an 8.0 V10 engine from a lorry (apparently) it is a very torquey car and is more than capabl of throwing you back in your seat and it looks brawny and muscular- however the car isn't in it's element in bendy tracks- While I found the cabin reasonably ergonomical I also found it very uncomfortable.

The 575 Maranello has pretty clumsy suspension- but with some aftermarket springs it is magic, the straight-line performance is a little off but that is OK- because it's not an important part of a car. It is also far more comfy than the Viper and the overall quality of the finished product is far nicer

crayzayjay
05-27-2003, 10:37 AM
The 575 was slated for being very, very soft. With the Fiorano set-up it's said to be a much better car.. id take the 550 over both; schumi had a hand in it, no wonder it's so good!

Jimster
05-27-2003, 11:50 PM
So very true!!!!!!! It's sad that the 575 is such a step down from the 550 :( I'd have a 550 Barchetta over them all though ;)

crayzayjay
05-28-2003, 06:13 AM
The Barchetta's cool, but i didnt like the alloys and the styling wasnt quite as right as the coupe. Give me a standard 550 and i won't be complaining :D

I agree with you there Farod, I'd rather have an Aston, but you are wrong about Ford. As you might know, Aston Martin has gone through really shitty times during it's history concerning it's financial statement, and if it warent for Ford maybe Aston wouldn't produce such cars right now. And Trust me, you don't buy a Taurus for Aston money, Aston Martin is what it is, and Ford just owns it, thats all.

crayzayjay
05-28-2003, 10:56 AM
you make some valid points, but i wouldnt appreciate Fiesta switchgear in a £100k car...

db6
05-29-2003, 04:46 AM
Have you ever sat in an aston? Believe me, the last thing you do in one is start to think about fiesta switch gears.

In any case, to keep the thread to the point, I think the Viper is a rude car. You can't compare it with a Ferrari, whatever the speed, power, torque, bla bla bla. A Ferrari is a Ferrari.

crayzayjay
05-29-2003, 05:27 AM
i sat in a DB7 and while the interior was nice overall, there were some shitty looking switches in there... what can i say... it didnt add to the experience...

as for ferrari vs viper, ferrari no question

ShadowDN1

If decisions to buy cars were made strictly on acceleration/cost then the best car would be to go to your nearest scrapyard, buy a '71 Pinto and cram a big-block engine in it with some wide rear tires. Low cost, big straight-line performance.

I'd take the Ferrari. No question.
