I hate my job.

I know that everyone usually experiences this in the working world, but the worst part about this is that I like what I do but hate it with a passion as well.

I work in the news industry and cover a small community that I know well. Throughout the week I can be found talking with various community members, taking pictures at events or attending events.

I write a weekly column that gives me the freedom to address nearly anything I want. I have good relationships many of the business leaders and community leaders in town and sit on more than one board that values my input.

I like what I do. But I hate my job. I am the only person doing what I do; I have no assistant because my company is too cheap to give me one. Because I have no assistant, I have to take on the duties of an operation that would normally take a staff of three people to complete with proper efficiency.

Additionally, the hours that I work - around 60/65 per week - keep me from spending time with my wife, which is beginning to have an impact on our relationship that I do not want to see escalate. I'm generally out of the house until 6 or 7 p.m. covering an event or doing something work related and by the time I get back, it's 7:30/8 p.m. and I get to spend two hours with my wife before we go to sleep.

My sleep schedule is a mess at the beginning of each week as I usually only get about 5 hours between Monday and Tuesday, and this affects my work throughout the rest of the week.

My boss, who has been in this industry for a long time, seems to have no vision but for that which will bring us more money. Case in point: We do a special section every other week regarding community opinions and this week we asked where you were when the towers fell. Instead of commenting on the idea or the responses, he told me I shouldn't have asked a certain person the question because he knows that person is already a reader. It killed my mood for the day. The man can hardly speak without sounding intoxicated and conversations we have usually don't last more than a few words or involves sports because it's one of the few things we relate on.

One of the only things keeping me here right now is the fact that I have bills to pay and that I feel a great deal of responsibility towards creating a product that the town I work for deserves.

I. Hate. My. Job. It sadden me that this is the way that I feel, especially considering that it's what I went to school for and it's something that I would otherwise enjoy.

Does this make me a bitch or what? Because I don't feel like I'm being unreasonable to want some help.

I don't know. I'm job hunting right now in hopes that something reasonable with similar pay will come about. We will see.

/end rant.

Sounds like you hate your boss more than the job, but sorry to hear about it. No one wants to spend all their school learning to do something they love only to have a job in they hate. The bossman is a moron. Good luck finding a different job, or maybe you can just get a different boss...go freelance!

Good luck!

Sorry to hear that man. At least you are doing something you love though. There are a lot of people who aren't doing what they love, and hate their jobs. Although, I guess it might be worse to be doing something you actually love, but not enjoying it because you have a lame boss who doesn't know what he's doing. I wish you luck man. There are so many occurrences I've witnessed where people talk about how they hate their job, then quit, and end up finding something better. You may be one of those guys.

Well my two cents is that yeah you are bitching, while you may not like your job,it is you who got you where your working and how you are working.Nobody told you to work with the people you work for or do the work that they tell you to do because they dont controll you. If you dont like the situation youre in,do something about it and quit bitching,im sorry if i seem like an asshole, but sometimes you need someone to tell you what you need to hear, peace

No, it makes you a winer :crying:.

I am in the same boat, but in this economy, i feel fortunate to still have the job I have bitched about for years..

Go to you boss and tell him to hire you an assistant or hire himself a replacement. It sounds like you're a good worker, if you're doing two jobs, he should want to keep you. If he refuses, get out of there. It may be hard to find a job right now, you might have to stick it out a year or two. Just don't stay there thinking it will be better eventually. If your boss won't hire you an assistant now, he won't hire you one in 5 years or 10. If you don't want to do something, then why would you do it for money? My first choice for a career pays about 3x more than the one I chose. But I realized that I didn't like doing that, not for 8 hours a day. If I had $5 mil., there's a good chance I'd be out in my garage working on cars anyway... I don't have $5 mil., so I work on other people's cars. What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Do that for money!
